Discover Alfaro's Restaurant

Walking into Alfaro's Restaurant in Fairview feels like stepping into a place where time slows down and food still matters more than trends. Located at 149 Anderson Ave, Fairview, NJ 07022, United States, this neighborhood diner-style Italian restaurant has earned its reputation through consistency, warmth, and plates that actually arrive hot and generous. I first stopped in on a rainy weekday afternoon, expecting a quick lunch, and ended up lingering longer than planned just watching locals greet the staff by name. That kind of familiarity says more than any sign on the door.

The menu leans heavily into Italian-American staples, but nothing feels rushed or careless. You’ll see pizza, pasta, subs, and classic entrées laid out simply, which makes ordering easy even if it’s your first visit. Their thin-crust pizza is a standout, with a balance of crisp and chew that many New Jersey diners judge harshly. I once overheard a regular explain that he’s been ordering the same pie every Friday for over ten years, which lines up with what the National Restaurant Association often points out: repeat customers value consistency over novelty. Alfaro’s clearly understands that.

What really sets the place apart is the family-owned feel that shows up in small details. Orders aren’t barked across the kitchen; they’re talked through. When I asked about portion sizes, the server laughed and said most people leave with leftovers. That turned out to be true. The baked ziti came bubbling, layered with cheese and sauce that tasted slow-cooked rather than pulled from a jar. According to culinary research shared by organizations like the James Beard Foundation, simplicity paired with quality ingredients is often what keeps neighborhood restaurants alive for decades, and Alfaro’s seems to follow that philosophy without advertising it.

Reviews from locals back this up. Scroll through online feedback and you’ll notice people mentioning reliability, fair pricing, and a neighborhood classic vibe. One review talked about bringing three generations of family for Sunday dinner, which mirrors my own experience seeing parents, kids, and grandparents sharing booths. That kind of crowd mix usually signals trust, especially in food service, where diners are quick to move on if standards slip.

The location itself also works in its favor. Sitting right on Anderson Avenue makes it easy to reach whether you’re a Fairview resident or just passing through Bergen County. Parking can be tight during peak hours, which is worth noting, but most regulars plan around it or opt for takeout. Alfaro’s handles takeout efficiently, and watching the steady stream of pickup orders gave me a glimpse into how well-integrated it is in daily routines around town.

From a practical standpoint, the restaurant keeps things straightforward. The dining area isn’t flashy, but it’s clean and comfortable, which aligns with health and safety expectations outlined by the CDC for public dining spaces. While I can’t speak to every single dish on the menu, the ones I’ve tried have been consistent across visits, and consistency is something food researchers frequently associate with customer trust and long-term success.

There are limits, of course. If you’re looking for experimental cuisine or Instagram-driven plating, this may not be your spot. Alfaro’s doesn’t try to reinvent Italian food, and that’s intentional. It focuses on execution, familiarity, and value, which is exactly why it continues to draw steady crowds year after year. In a dining landscape where restaurants open and close at record speed, that kind of staying power speaks volumes without needing to say much at all.

  • I love this Guatemalan restaurant! I'm glad to see they are finally on Google. They serve a lot of food for the price. About $10 to $12 a plate which I can never finish, I end up taking some home. They also have $6 plates which is enough food for me if I don't want to take any. They open really early, maybe 5 am and their breakfasts are delicious. Next time I go, I'll post pictures.

  • Really enjoy their pupusas. I do not speak Spanish so took a menu and pointed at things I wanted. The service was very good.

  • The best chicken rice and beans outside of Central America. We really loved the homemade tastes and this has become a regular spot for us. Food is fresh, staff are friendly and service is excellent.

  • Delicious food. I am notnfrom central America, so, we ask the waitress about some of the dishes. All shebdid was like say the name of the dishes. I can read that, so we asked what are they? She rolled her eyes and walked away passing us off to another waitress to take our order. I ended up having to Google some of the dishes. Wait staff weren't too nice. I guess you must be Guatemalan for them to be nice and all over you, or male for the first waitress to want to help as she was all over other male patrons. That was my only dislike, again the food was very good.
